Count Down …

Having a book come out is always exciting and a day to celebrate, but it’s been a while since a real, tangible, printed-on-paper version of my work landed on my doorstep in a box. I peeled off the tape and pulled out the packing, and behold, there it was. My author’s copy of THE FANTASY FICTION FORMULA–a long time in the making–all shined up and ready to launch.

February 1 is its street date. I’m told by a friend that Amazon at least will be shipping on February 3. Big breath. That’s when we’ll see if the anticipation has been justified, if all you wonderful supportive purchasers will get your money’s worth.

Meanwhile, I’m emotionally pacing the floor like a mommy watching her five-year-old ballerina run onto the stage for that first dance recital.

Fingers crossed.

We’ll see.

  1. Pre-purchased my copy late year — can’t wait for it to start shipping. Congratulations!

  2. Got mine pre-ordered. Amazon says it might not arrive until the 24th, but I’m hoping that’s not accurate, and only because it isn’t technically released until the 1st. πŸ™‚ Looking forward to reading it.

  3. I’ve added it to my Amazon wishlist for when payday comes.

  4. Mine’s pre-ordered too! I’m having it delivered to my office so I can show it off to all my coworkers πŸ™‚

  5. The book arrived today, yay. Can’t help but think alot of it will be universal rules and how they apply to fantasy. How to create a plot can be applied to anything. At a glance, I like how the book uses so many examples. That will be very helpful.

I just bought this on Amazon and I’m looking forward to reading it. I’ve never actually read any of your fiction but Jim Butcher calls you his Obi Wan, so that’s a good enough reason for me to pick up a copy.

  7. Congratulations on the release of the book! I was wondering if you will be releasing a kindle version of it? I’m happy to purchase it in print, but my preference would be ebook if one was coming. Thank you for any information!

  8. Hi, I’ve been reading and studying this book avidly. It has the clearest explanation of how to construct a plot of anything I’ve seen. Thank you! And it’s funny, which is even better! Can I ask a question though? I was working my way though the drill exercise on page 135 (with the excerpt from Shadow War). Am I right that there’s an odd number of A/Rs here? Does it end on an action, without a reaction? Or have I missed something?

    • I’m so glad the book is helping you! As for your question, at the end of page 135 Caelan’s internalization is in response to Orlo’s question. Caelan doesn’t speak, however. His silence can be considered an action that provokes Orlo to frown and call him a fool.

The very end of this excerpt on page 136 cuts off before the conversation is completely finished.

Hope this clarifies things and answers your question.

  9. Aha, yes, thank you! I had it right πŸ™‚ Also, am I right that this is a weak “yes but” ending? (At least, as it ends in the excerpt?) Thanks for taking the time to answer me πŸ™‚
